In this day and age we are constantly seeing images of famous celebrities magically bouncing back from their pregnancies in just a few weeks *eye roll*. I know a lot of people including myself got hung up on the idea of the instant “snap back”! The truth is though getting back into pre baby shape is A LOT of work, and those celebrity photos you see all over your social media these days well either they worked really hard to shed it fast, they are entertainers after all OR they paid to have it removed (I’m just saying). Realistically, shedding those post pregnancy pounds is going to take some serious dedication and time. I wanted to give up several times. Here’s my story on how I lost my baby weight.
Back in 2012 I changed my entire lifestyle and became a gym rat. I worked out every single day sometimes 2 times a day and was on a 1400 calorie meal plan. I was so dedicated, I didn’t even think about donuts back then LOL.
This is me maybe a week or so before I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant! I had just built a home gym in my house and was excited!
For the first 5 months of my pregnancy nobody even knew I was really pregnant and then at 7 months…. the pounds started adding up. I gained 60lbs, totalling 210lbs as my boyfriend wheeled me into the delivery room! For a fitness enthusiast like myself, I was real nervous as to how this was all going to come off afterwards. This is 11 days before I gave birth at my baby shower. I REALLY did not want to be there My boyfriend threw me the biggest baby shower ever! It was amazing but, my feet were swollen and I was freaking huge!! Even my nose had gained weight!
A week after my delivery I was anxious to workout, I too took pictures thinking I looked like I had snapped back already but no, I was still holding onto the weight at 185 for what seemed like forever.
3 months post pregnancy I felt great but I wanted to get back to my normal self and my boobs were gigantic thanks to breast feeding. (Side Note: as soon as I started working out my milk supply ran out. Make sure you are eating a lot and maintaining those calories if you decide to breast feed and workout.)
After clearance from my doctor, I finally bought a gym membership and got back to working out. The gym became my sanctuary again. It was 1 hour of “Mommy Time”. For a person who previously worked out every single day, I could not figure out how to get this weight off and It was taking forever! I finally decided to give in and got a personal trainer that I had found through instagram and that changed things very quickly for me. I started working with Drew Washington of TBOWFitness.com and the weight started melting off. My workouts were fully tailored to my body type and the transformation was in full affect. I got myself in check and held myself accountable. I highly recommend anyone who wants to truly drop that weight to check out Drew! Working with Drew definitely got me back on track and also motivated enough that after a year I decided I was in an ok place to do it on my own. I took the things I learned from him and still use them in the gym everyday.
Picture on the left is 6 months after baby and on the right 6 months into training with Drew! Did I mention this was all done online? That made things so much easier!
It took me 1 full year of training to finally get myself down to pre baby weight and a total of 14 months.
My current fitness goals are just to maintain my new mom curves and live a healthy lifestyle because really thats whats important. I recommend setting realistic goals for yourself and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t see the pounds coming off fast. Everyone’s body is different! Stay encouraged and enjoy chasing your toddlers around because thats probably how I lost most of my weight anyways!
I am currently trying out this new Sweet Sweat waist trimmer. Its much different than a “waist trainer”. I am definitely loving this thing. It increases your body temperature around your waist to make you sweat more while working out. The result is you losing water weight and slimming your core. This thing works amazingly BUT, you have to definitely be working out to see results!
What kind of workouts are you currently trying to shed the baby weight?
