Happy first day of spring!! You know what that means, summer is just around the corner and I know you have been trying to get that perfect summer body. So, today I challenge you to pick up some weights and tone your body with upper body workouts! Just about everyday in the gym, I meet women asking me for fitness tips and advice. One thing I notice about them all is, they never step foot in the weight area and spend all their time on the cardio machines, getting minimal results. I know weights can be intimidating to most women. I too went through this phase for awhile to the point of putting together an at home gym so I didn’t have to lift in front of anyone but, the truth is nobody really cares what you look like. Most likely nobody is even paying attention. Everyone in the gym is there for the same reasons you are.
Lifting weights can actually burn more fat than cardio, tone your body faster & give you the summer body you’ve been wanting. Weights are absolutely for chicks too! I hear all the time women say, they don’t want to bulk up like a man so thats why they skip weights but, that is impossible to be done if you are training naturally. We lack the natural testosterone men have that causes “the bulk”. The only thing lifting weights can do to you is tone you up and give you strength!
Everyone’s into those squat challenges these days and I’ll admit they are fun! I have joined in on a few and I love me a good leg day but, what about the upper body? Toning your upper body especially shoulders and back with weight training, can give you the illusion of having a smaller waist, its kinda like magic! Yes girl, get into this free magic and form and tone those shoulders with my upper body workouts! Its my #1 reason for training shoulders at least 2 times a week, its my favorite! Shoulder days I generally will mix in bicep, back or chest workouts too. If you like seeing instant results, try training your upper body with some of my favorite exercises and don’t be afraid to increase the weight over time, in fact don’t even think JUST DO IT you are a lot stronger than you think! I always begin any training session with at least 15 mins cardio and most likely not the favorite elliptical machine or even treadmill unless my stair master is being occupied. The stair master is seriously one of the BEST cardio machines a lot of people are missing out on. If you want to sweat hop on that thing! I generally do interval training to warm up 1 min on a comfortable low setting and then all the way as high as it will go. This really gets me ready for my workout (that and the Big Freedia Pandora station!). If the stair master is being used I do the same interval set on the treadmill.

This is one of my favorite exercises. Try increasing the weight after every set!
End your workout doing push ups until you just cant do anymore. This is a typical shoulder/upper body day for me. I kept it pretty basic for you guys but I am known to do more than this depending on how I feel. I always try to push myself in the gym to get those results and hope you do too!
Sweet Sweat waist trimmer update!
This thing has been amazing and just an added bonus to my workouts. This is just 3 weeks of results and I only use it on days where I am doing lots of cardio or doing abs. It has really helped define my abs. It will be interesting to see how this thing works if i were to wear it everyday during workouts which is what I am trying this week.
